Sassagrass was first formed back in 1998 in the hills of North Carolina.  Mark Schimick (mandolin) got together with Billy Constable in Boone, North Carolina, and the picking party commenced.  After a few years, the members spread out to join other groups including Larry Keel, String Cheese Incident, and many others, covering the world with the sounds of Appalachia.

Sadly, in 2015, Billy Constable passed away.  In the wake of his passing, Sassagrass found new life in the band, and in the spirit and memory of their founder, forged ahead with a new configuration.  With an album out, one in the works, and several festivals and concerts on the books, the band is gaining momentum and once again sharing Appalachian string music with the world.  Check out the new album HERE.
